Flood Them With Love
Flood Them with Love was established on Christmas Day, 2008 to help flood survivors with immediate needs. Between that date and December, 2010:
- We raised nearly $500,000 with our partner, Horizons, A Family Service Alliance. We distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in furniture and household items to more than 350 families through our 6,400 square-foot warehouse.
- We distributed 100 NEW FREE beds and 100 NEW FREE dressers to our flood-impacted families.
- We networked with other helping agencies to find legal, medical, food, and clothing support.
- We were advocates for our families, speaking with federal and state agencies and helping with the confusing, never-ending paperwork. We have served more than 300 families.
- We worked with homeless families, getting them off the streets and into motels when all the shelters are full.
About Us
Flood Them With Love was an all-volunteer, local, grassroots group whose mission was to provide immediate help to flood survivors. We meet flood families in their home, assessed their needs and invite them to shop for free in our warehouse. In addition, we networked other needs and were advocates for flood survivors. We collaborated with with our partner, Horizons, A Family Service Alliance.
Founder Karla Goettel was appointed by the City Council to serve on the Voluntary Property Acquisition Advisory Committee in order to assist families through the buyout process. She has received numerous awards for her work with Flood Them with Love: The Downtown Rotary’s “Community Service Award of 2009”, The Board of Realtors “Volunteer of the Year Award” and KCRG’s “Nine Who Care” Award.
